The “Friends” organization was founded in the Fall of 2002 by a group of local citizens concerned with the impact of budgetary shortfalls on the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center. Our mission is to help support the operations of the US Forest Service’s Avalanche Center in their efforts to enhance public awareness of backcountry avalanche hazards and safety measures, promote winter snow safety and provide information concerning snow conditions and weather to winter recreationalists throughout the Mount Shasta area.
- FMSAC is a non-profit, local, member-based organization founded in 2002 in order to raise funds for the USDA Forest Service’s Mt Shasta Avalanche Center.
- FMSAC increases Public Awareness by promoting the MSAC’s FREE avalanche transceiver clinics and backcountry safety presentations.
- FMSAC increases avalanche forecast data and weather information accuracy by purchasing and installing Weather Stations and needed equipment at sites frequented by winter recreationalists.
- FMSAC holds monthly meetings open to the public in order to share and promote fundraising ideas and information and plan events.
